ObamaCare Requires Advance Care Planning Consultation
Translation – they want to make sure the elderly know they are a burden to not only on their family, but on the healthcare system. Insidious…
And as usual, the DailyKos is trumpeting that the right wing loons are up in arms about nothing. Well…I read about what Tom Daschle, the original architect of this type of legislation, had to say. There is a huge controversy over what exactly he did and didn’t say. We know he said that healthcare reform “will not be pain free.”
Though I have not read the book, “Critical,” people studying the legislation and who have read the book argue that the context of Daschle’s statement indicates that this is a preview of the rationing mentality (and reality) that goes along with gonvernment-run healthcare. Their read is: “Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt.”
The defenders of Mr. Daschle’s comments have an extremently weak response. According to the liberal bastion of “truth” Snopes.com, the point Daschle makes in the section of his book that is quoted is “not that seniors should learn to accept limited medical care, but rather that one of the factors behind higher health care costs is that a number of procedures and treatments with little real medical benefit (such as cosmetic surgery) have been aggessively marketed to the public by health care providers and drug companies.” Other retorts from supporters of government healthcare at any cost have echoed this argument.
Wait… did I hear that right? They are saying that cosmetic surgery is a factor behind higher healthcare costs? I am incredulous over this idea because the vast majority of cosmetic procedures are NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE, but are self-pay procedures! If individuals use their own money to pay for the vast majority of cosmetic procedures, how does that raise health costs overall?
Here’s a thought: I have a good notion that the cosmetic surgeries that are covered by insurance companies are not covered because the underwriters were feeling generous, but rather because Congress meddled – ya know what I mean? After all – if everybody has a right to own a house, then everybody has a right to be pretty, handsome and overall feel really good about themselves, right?
Here’s a brain-bender for you:
Read this section of legislation and imagine the mentality behind it. Then ask yourself: Why would they require Medicare providers to engage in “Advance Care Planning Consultation,” but they refuse to pass legislation mandating an abortion clinic be required to counsel on alternatives to abortion?
One involves death, and one involves life. Again, I say: Insidious.
