Over the Thanksgiving holiday our Senators will be home. The 11/21 vote was to move the matter to debate once they return from the holiday.

I urge each and everyone of you to visit their Senator’s office with the message they seem to not have heard. Vote for this Healthcare bill, and you better prepare for retirement.

To that end:

MAKE SURE TO DROP OFF A “HAPPY RETIREMENT” GREETING CARD!

This is our last chance to be heard! If you can’t get to their office just drop one in the mail! Find the addresses here: http://www.senate.gov/ . A list of Democrat Senators up for re-election in 2010 is here: http://www.fireandreamitchell.com/2009/11/21/a-list-of-democrat-senators-up-for-re-election-in-2010/

RSVP here, if you can: http://www.facebook.com/#/event.php?eid=179798034662&index=1

Be sure to invite EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

TIP 1: If there is already someone geared up to run against them, be sure to mention that candidate by name in a note, so they know that YOU KNOW who their competition is! Even better make sure they know you will be working on the competition’s campaign if you are so inclined!

TIP 2: Think about presenting them with a big beautiful Mylar Balloon for a little extra pizazz!!

TIP 3: Spend some quality crafty time with family and like-minded friends to deliver custom-crafted cards and doo-dads.

TIP 4: No time to go to the card shop? Here’s a free retirement card template you can print and send! http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC103754971033.aspx?CategoryID=CT101433941033 ht

TIP 5: Get a group together, meet up at a specific day/time and throw a party! Cards, balloons, cake, noise makers! Sing “For He’s a FOLLY Good Fellow,” give them a Barney the Dinosaur watch as a departing gift!

TIP 6: Film the delivery and/or party. Take pictures during your visit or scan your card! Post them here! (We do love your creativity, folks, but PLEASE stay on topic or your image will be deleted)

TIP 7: If your Senator is not there to see you, at least request the office manager. I believe this will provide more impact.

Again, please be sure to invite EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

RSVP here, if you can: http://www.facebook.com/#/event.php?eid=179798034662&index=1

By Rene Simpson, my new friend via Facebook.

While we are wrestling with the issues of the day, there is a God who is watching it all. More and more we are choosing to exclude or delete the Creator from our everyday lives and decision making. Is it any wonder that we make the choices that we do? We make choices based on what our friends or relatives are doing, what our political party is currently pushing and what seems to benefit us at the time. Morals and values are relative, political correctness is the order of the day and “what’s in it for me ?” is a common question to ourselves before we do the right thing. Do we dare to buck the trends and just do what is right?

I do not know where this country is going, maybe to hell in a hand basket, but if we want to keep being a free land we better put the brakes on a lot of things we are doing right now. The cult of celebrity, the shallowness of our culture, the vulgarity of some of our conduct and the forsaking of decency, honor and integrity for fame or attention and not to mention corruption in every form of government, these things will surely bring us to the brink of disaster. Do we dare to stand on principles?

We have chosen a president like we choose our favorite movie star: “He’s handsome, he’s eloquent, he’s cool, he’s an African American”. What about what he truly believes?
We are messing up the great experiment that is the United States of America for shallow reasons. Do we dare to go beyond the surface and find the truth?

What does “change” really mean. Does it mean obliterating the thought of God from every public view and forum so that we may not offend. Does it mean giving up our freedoms so we can have the government as our daddy? Does it mean true diversity or suppression of one group so others will not complain? Does it mean taking from some to give to others by force? Does it mean squashing free speech when we do not agree with it. Do we dare to stand up in the marketplace of ideas and say I believe in righteousness, freedom of religion, the dignity of the individual and the protection of the same no matter born or unborn ?

The government has now asked the citizens to rat on each other for speaking out. What? How did we get here ? Is there a right and a wrong? What does America truly stand for and why are we losing it? Where does God really fit in here? Do we dare ask him? The framers of our constitution did.Though the founders were not perfect they were wise enough to know that they should seek divine guidance to form this country into a free republic.

He’s watching. He truly is and I don’t think that he is amused.

It’s difficult to keep a proper perspective at a time like this, but thanks for reminding me, Rene!

But what the Bible teaches about love argues for the other side” Newsweek editor Jon Meacham offers an editorial note that broadens Newsweek’s responsibility for this atrocity of an article and reveals even more of the agenda: “No matter what one thinks about gay rights—for, against or somewhere in between —this conservative resort to biblical authority is the worst kind of fundamentalism,” Meacham writes. “Given the history of the making of the Scriptures and the millennia of critical attention scholars and others have given to the stories and injunctions that come to us in the Hebrew Bible and the Christian New Testament, to argue that something is so because it is in the Bible is more than intellectually bankrupt—it is unserious, and unworthy of the great Judeo-Christian tradition.” (emphasis mine)

Who spoke these words to a nation of believers?

“No human counsel hath devised, nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the most high God, who while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. … I do, therefore, invite my fellow citizens … to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father, who dwelleth in the heavens. And I recommend to them that, while offering up the ascriptions justly due to him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged and fervently implore the interposition of the almighty hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it, as soon as may be consistent with the divine purposes, to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquility and union.”

~Abraham Lincoln

Now can we agree that the modern-day concept of Separation of Church and State is seriously flawed?

For years, the Separation of Church and State issue has been gnawed on even though there is absolutely no such provision in the Constitution of the United States of America.

The “Establishment” clause reads:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

The current courts’ interpretation has twisted this clause in such a way that the clause is anathema to itself. It’s like that commericial that is on TV… Guy walks into a dry cleaner with a shirt and tells the attendant “I want it starched and not starched.” The attendent asks, “what part do you want starched and what part do your want not starched?” The man replies “All of it.”

What are these people thinking? You can’t have it both ways and all of it at the same time!

One article on the subject of Separation describes it this way:

“During the last generation, the courts, at all levels, have ruled in ways that essentially guarantee the freedom from religion, instead of the freedom of religion.” ChristainAnswers.net

Establishment -

This word can be used as one of the following, depending on the context*:

the act or an instance of establishing. (literal)

the state or fact of being established. (literal)

the recognition by a state of a church as the state church.

So that begs the question: Has government been ruled out of the business of legislating…

…the act or an instance of establishing a religion?
I think as a literal phrase and in the context of the evacuation of England by our country’s first founders and citizen, this makes sense.

…the state or fact of religion being established?
No, the founders were overwhelmingly religious. They were determined to have their churches. They would go on to excercise their religious freedom by establishing churches, having been unfettered by the tinkering of the government. This was the point of the clause.

…the recognition by a state of a church as the state church.
The founders prayed in private, public, and yes, even government gatherings. The first community schools used the Bible as one of their primary subjects of study. These acts on the part of the founders and early citizens did not constitute recognition of a state church then.

Anathema. You can’t have it both ways.

*These are 3 of 12 definitions that are either literal, or relate closest in historical context to Constitutional issues.

BALTIMORE – U.S. Roman Catholic bishops, meeting a week after the election, are re-examining how they explain church teaching after President-elect Obama, who supports abortion rights, won a majority of Catholic votes.

During the campaign, many bishops had spoken out on abortion more forcefully than they had in 2004, telling Catholic politicians and voters that abortion should be the most important consideration in setting policy and deciding which candidate to back.

Yet, according to exit polls, 54 percent of Catholics chose Obama, who is Protestant, and Vice President-elect Biden, who is Catholic. Biden also thinks abortion should be legal.

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, of New York City, said that chairmen of the bishops’ national committees met privately Monday morning to begin looking at the issue. A public discussion was set for Tuesday afternoon, the final open session of the bishops’ fall meeting.

DiMarzio oversaw drafting of the bishops’ presidential election-year guide, “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.” The statement explained Catholic views on poverty, health care and other social issues, but also said that fighting abortion should be paramount.

Bishops posted the document on Web sites and circulated it in parishes. Church staff produced “Faithful Citizenship” podcasts and, for the first time, leaders wrote special election-eve prayers that touched on abortion and other issues.

Still, many church leaders were angered to see several prominent Catholics back Obama, citing a Democratic commitment to reduce abortion. Obama supporters said that GOP leaders had failed to reduce abortion rates and overturn Roe v. Wade.

DiMarzio said many Catholics misinterpreted or misused “Faithful Citizenship.”

“We spoke in very clear but difficult language about moral choices,” said DiMarzio. He said just aiming to reduce abortion, instead of ending it, was morally unacceptable. “Would it be OK if we just tried to reduce slavery?” he said.

Church leaders have been struggling for decades to persuade an often uninvolved flock to incorporate Catholic teaching in their daily lives. This year, as the economy sank, the prelates faced an even greater challenge gaining voters’ attention.

“People vote for lots of reasons. As we’re hearing, the overriding issue is the economy,” said Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C.

The bishops’ frustration is compounded by their task ahead: working with other religious leaders to fight what they expect will be Obama’s policies on some key issues.

John Podesta, Obama’s transition chief, has said the president-elect is considering reversing President Bush’s limit on federal spending for embryonic stem cell research.

Catholic leaders are among those who consider destroying embryos akin to killing a fetus. Obama, along with many moderate Republicans, has supported the research in an effort to find cures for diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Chicago Cardinal Francis George, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said expanding embryonic stem cell research would “alienate tens of millions of people, not just Catholics, and militates against the type of unity the administration hopes to achieve.”

He said, “the common good can never be adequately incarnated in any society when those waiting to be born can be legally killed at choice.”

While the bishops agree on the goal of ending abortion, they differ on how they should persuade lawmakers - of Catholic and other faiths - to agree.

A few bishops have said Biden should not receive Holy Communion.

But Bishop W. Francis Malooly of Wilmington, Del., Biden’s home diocese, said the Democrat had called him in September, the night before Malooly was installed as bishop.

Malooly said the two agreed they would meet when scheduling allows to discuss Catholic teaching. The bishop said he did not advise Biden to refrain from Communion.

“I won’t politicize the Eucharist,” Malooly said. “I don’t want to alienate people. I want to change their hearts and minds.”

People had any variety of Christian bumper stickers, medallians, license plates and danglies stuck to screwed on and hanging from their cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles. But they were voting for Obama, the baby killer.

There have been physical attacks, threats of violence and property has been vandalized. The potential of violence continues even after the election.

“If Christians were terrorizing homosexuals with threats of violence the homosexuals would cry ‘hate crime,’” said Dr. Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission. “Where’s the love from homosexuals who demand tolerance from everyone else, but cannot respect the results of the democratic process so they resort to illegally terrorizing Christians and people of faith.”

Throughout the campaign for Proposition 8 which would restore traditional marriage to California, stories have flooded in of Prop 8 signs being taken, property destroyed and people being verbally and physically assaulted for their pro-marriage stand. (see links below)

An elderly couple in San Diego County became a headline when they were attacked by their neighbor for displaying a Prop 8 sign in their yard. The couple was taken to the hospital after being struck on the face and the head. The women, who just had cataract surgery, was punched in the eye which may result is severe damage.
